The four pieces of a good ask
- Role or context — who you are, or who the audience is
- Goal — what “done” looks like
- Constraints — length, tone, must-include facts
- Example — a sentence you like, or one to avoid
Try this template
“I’m a [role]. I need [deliverable] for [audience]. Tone should be [tone]. Include [facts]. Don’t mention [off-limits]. Give me [number] options.”
Then refine
If the first answer is almost right, don’t start over. Say: “Shorter.” “More local.” “Less salesy.” “Keep the second option and make it friendlier.” Conversation beats perfection on try one.
